47. The Seven Free Planets
Voltron version: The Summit Meeting
Delegates from the free planets meet at Castle Gradam for what Raible calls the founding meeting of the Leo Alliance. They also have the backing of 42 other planets that are willing to fight the Galra Empire.
A hesitant Fala is elected as the leader of the alliance (hesitant due to her own perceived inexperience). After the meeting, Raible drops a controversial idea on the boys of the team - he wants Fala to also become the head of GoLion, and pilot Black Lion instead.
Later Raible confesses to Kogane that he promised the others on the Leo Alliance that Fala would pilot black lion after one of them cracked a joke about the leader of the alliance being GoLion's right leg. Kogane surprisingly agrees to it, after noting that an emotional disagreement on Earth once tore it apart (referencing the holocaust that destroyed it) and that he wouldn't let the same happen to Altea.
On Galra, Daibazaal is enraged to learn of all the rebelliousness. Surprisingly, Sincline had already caught wind of the 40-some planets that wish to back Altea and had plotted assassinations, massacres and other means of terror to teach the rebels their place. They are confident that all they have to deal with then is just GoLion.
Back on Altea, Fala's training begins in Black Lion, and Moody in particular is not amused. But Kogane has faith in Fala. It doesn't go well, and later her father appears to her to tell her why - she must discipline herself. She heads out early in the morning to 'discipline' her mind, but runs into Sincline. He tries to strike an alliance deal of his own with her, which disgusts Fala.
Then Kogane arrives, and the duel is on. Sincline thinks he's beaten Kogane and returns to Galra to report that all they must do now is crush the Leo Alliance. The attack is almost successful due to the guys' reluctance to leave Kogane's bedside and fight - but Kogane joins them in the blue lion, and the beastman is ultimately defeated.
Even so, Fala feels her attempt in Black Lion was not successful though Kogane assures her that she could get the hang of it in time. But the best result was regardless of who is in black lion, the Leo Alliance was unbroken.
Differences: In the dub version, the plan was to try to get Allura off the Voltron Force for her protection, not promote her to the Black Lion. And obviously, any Galaxy Alliance or Drule scenes are not present in the GoLion version.
Cuts: Some of the more violent assassination images were cut.
