27. Giant Beastman's Lullaby
Voltron version: The Green Medusa
The episode opens on Planet Meduse. Sincline is there to find his next beastman candidate but is disappointed to find "every one" of the Gorgon race already dead from fever. Autopsies of sorts are performed in an effort to find the secret of their ultimate weapon - the Beam Eye - and find it is not a physical one but a mental one. It manifests only when they hate an enemy.
Then it is discovered one female survived. They find her finishing the grave of her child, grieving. Sincline orders her captured. She is taken to the Arena back on Galra and impresses Daibazaal with its ability to turn things to stone when angered.
On Arus, Fala is bestowing blessings on the children of her people, with the other pilots assisting in the ceremony. Shorty thinks back to the last time he saw his mother, and gets a little misty eyed. The beastman's attack cuts festivities short, and the Lions launch to deal with the threat.
They realize how powerful this beast is and witness its stone beam's ability. Shorty has to eject from his Lion during the attack. The Beastman takes him captive and disappears. Sincline is angry the Gorgon betrayed him. And while there is some worry for Shorty's safety, Kogane believes he is still alive as he thinks if the beastman wanted to kill Shorty it would have done so immediately.
Honerva explains to Sincline that the Gorgon's maternal instincts made her save Shorty as his size reminded her of her own offspring. She protects Shorty from a Galra attack, and the two bond. While the others are happy to hear he is safe, there's not time for reuniting as Sincline arrives to attack the castle with another beastman. Honerva goes to take care of the Gorgon, succeeding in shrinking and injuring the creature.
Despite her injuries, she helps Shorty get back to his lion so he can help his friends. The Gorgon pays with her life, and at the end, the group has a funeral for their fallen and unexpected friend.
Key Differences:
The cutting open of the deceased Gorgons was cut.
The closing segment was cut entirely from the dub, as it showed the team morning over the casket of the deceased Gorgon.
