30. The Prince Imperial's Dark Love
Voltron version: The Sleeping Princess
Sincline wakes from a repetitive dream he's had lately, where he dreams of a blonde woman he calls Mother. She is seemingly attacked by some unseen demon and taken away, but her face morphs into Fala's at one point causing him to wonder why this keeps happening. Upon awakening, he goes to meet the Princess of Galleria. Her name is Sahlia and Daibazaal means to have Sincline marry her. She is an imperial blood relative, so perfect for Sincline.
Sincline is unimpressed, having his black heart set on partnering with Fala. He demands to know if Fala is like his mother, though Sincline admits that he'd never seen his mother thus he is not sure if they actually bear a resemblance. Daibazaal refuses to discuss it beyond saying she died giving birth to Sincline.
Frustarted, Sincline meets up later with Honerva and Sahlia. Honerva promises to tell Sincline about his mother if he first promises to marry Sahlia. He agrees, but she doesn't actually tell him too much except to think back on a time when this mystery woman - who did indeed bear a resemblance to Fala - begged Daibazaal to show some defeated people some mercy and possibly paid for it with her life. Sincline gets Honerva agree to help him go get Fala as he never said he'd only take one wife.
The duo arrive on Altea, and with a magical daggar, inflinct a wound on Fala that seemingly renders her lifeless. During her funeral, Kogane thinks about their pledge to one another, to fight together to defeat the Galra Empire. He vows to carry out that promise without her.
Of course, as in the dub version, Sincline makes his move on the carriage only to have the GoLion pilots get in the way. After his defeat, he returns to Galra and sends Sahlia away - unable to get his mind off Fala and her reminders of his mother.
Key Differences:
It seems like a few of the Queen Elena (Orla) shots were cut, probably to shave time, as that whole scene where the boys sit and discuss the fact that they DON'T think Allura is really dead in the dub is not in this episode at all. Likely put in by WEP so we're not believing for a moment in even fake character death.
Also, everyone believed Fala was dead right up until she woke up. When Shorty (Pidge) ran at the evil duo with the grenade, it was a suicide run as he wanted to be with the Princess in heaven and take the assholes who killed the Princess out while he was at it.
