18. A Touch and Go Situation

Synopsis:
Carrying over from the prior episode, Captain Marius and the Earth survey teams begin working together to explore a planet. All goes well until Lafitte arrives. He is against the joint exploration and demands that it ends. Marius and his crew are reluctant, but feel they must obey Lafitte given he was put in charge of planetary exploration, and was reinstated on orders from higher in the command than Teles. They begin doing things their own way by destroying forests and killing off wildlife.
One soldier tells Aki this is because they will build a new base there. The soldier agrees to stop the destruction until negotiations between their leaders conclude. However, when the destruction begins again, Walter and Keats won't sit idly by despite Aki's urging them to wait until they hear from command.
Aki tries to stay out of the fray, but gets pulled in. Things escalate when the Galvestons launch a battle machine. Dairugger dispatches it, infuriating Lafitte who blames lack of training. He then demands his own battle machine be launched. Disgusted and not wishing to damage the planet more, Marius withdraws his forces. Ise orders the Rugger Teams to withdraw rather than fight the second battle machine, but they end up in a scuffle with it and a whirlwind. When all is done, the planet is a mess and everyone but Lafitte is rather distressed at it all.
