43. Teles and Asimov

Voltron version: It's Anybody's World

Synopsis: Teles and Asimov finally meet face to face to discuss what should be done with the third planet. Asimov is willing to let the Galvestons immigrate there, believing their homeworld is really in bad shape. But there is one condition - that they give up their ambition to rule the galaxy.

Teles reports back to Caponero who does not like this condition, but concedes that if they're making an offer then he'll take it. But when Teles returns, Asimov has learned some information from his survey team that changes everything - there are native people on the planet. Teles is shocked but asks if the Tri-Planet Alliance will still approve of a move there if they can coexist with the natives. Asimov agrees but lays out another condition - the Galveston military must disarm under Alliance supervision.

When Teles reports this back to Caponero, his military pride will have none of it. Besides, he's suspicious that they want an unarmed Galveston for their own galaxy dominating ambitions. He orders Teles to take the planet by whatever means, even if Teles must fight to the death. Defying direct orders, Teles returns to tell Asimov that while he has the orders, he will defy them and leave in peace. He no longer feels right taking a planet that is already occupied by natives.

Both Asimov and Ise are impressed by Teles's integrity, but leave part of their own fleet behind not trusting the Galveston government. And their instincts were right. Caponero, enraged that Teles defied him and left the planet, sends Juxon back to the third planet (Teles had previously ordered Juxon, along with Nolan, to split up and start a new search for an inhabitable world). The Alliance fleet is in trouble until Dairugger arrives to take care of the battle attacker, then Juxon fleet.

In the end, Teles is upset Juxon defied him as it makes his sacrifice in defying orders for nothing. Teles also suspects his government no longer has what's best for its people at heart. Meanwhile, Ise and Asimov wonder what will happen to Teles when he returns to base but both agree that nobody is safe until Galveston's government is overthrown.

Cuts:
A wide shot showing some nudie art on the Galveston ship was cut.
Juxon's death was cut, as were some other battle deaths.
