19. Red Moon Rising
Voltron version: Great Stone Space Faces
Synopsis:
A month after leaving planet J, the Rugger Guard nears planet K. The survey teams head out to start gathering data.
Meanwhile, Teles learns Lafitte is tracking the Rugger Guard and wants him called off the pursuit. He then goes to his quarters to have council with his father, the Homeland Secretary. There, his father explains just how dire the situation is on Galveston. The planet is dying, and the people are starving. He notes that some have suggested appropriated Earth, as it already has an advanced civilization, and emigrate there. The two agree that such an endeavor would be too costly for both sides, and vow not to let it come to that.
The Sea Rugger team finds the ruins of a city under the sea; evidence that the planet once was home to an advanced civilization. Earth sends a message for them to build a front line base there. Ise wants the results of the analysis first, then he'll decide whether the planet is a good candidate - despite what Galveston may do, he agrees with Asimov that a supply base for their mission is needed.
Ise orders the base built, while they continue to survey the planet for intelligent life. Lafitte, so far just keeping an eye on the Earth survey team to make sure making a star map is all they're up to, decides he'll defy Teles and do more.
During their continued survey, the Sea Team discover the ruins of an airport. They explore the ruins for clues to the identidy of the planet's natives, and find a red moon plaque. An enemy mech cuts the exploration short, leaving Keats and Haruka in danger. They escape a cruel fate, allowing for Dairugger to eliminate the threat.
At the end, they remain on the planet, the girls marveling at who these natives could have been and what they were like - concluding that they must have had a respect and fear of nature.
