52. Galactic Dawn

Voltron version: The End of Hazar's World
Synopsis:
The episode opens with a recap of the invasion, and then Teles comes forward from the crowd of citizens gathered by Dairugger and offers their unconditional surrender. He is willing to take responsibility for the war, but begs of the Rugger teams to save the innocent citizens. Ise and Asimov have already decided they must do what they can to help the people, so when Secretary Tes comes to do his own begging of Asimov, the request is easily granted. Asimov suggests they migrate the people to the third planet, the one that was so suitable and so fought over in previous episodes.
Due to the battle, they're lacking enough ships to get everyone, so they start loading women and children first. Hopefully, that reinforcement fleet Asimov requested a few eps back will arrive in time to get the rest. Unfortunately, there's a lot of interfence so the two fleets aren't able to contact one another.
Luckily, the fleets pass one another on the planet's surface and it's clear the Galveston men will be saved. The drama is not over however. Apparently Teles notices three guys hanging out away from the crowd and goes to tell them to leave before it's too late. When Teles nears, they rush him with knives and stab him in the gut. They shout that he's a traitor; that it was leaders like him that let the Galvestons fall so far. We also learn that one of the guys in the group is the little brother of Sim, the soldier that died in episode 11. Teles does not ask for pity or make excuses. He is willing to forgive them and takes the blame for the state of Galveston. He does get angry when they don't want to leave, urging them to go and rebuild Galveston.
When they run off toward the waiting ships, Sirk - who had been looking for Teles - runs out to where he lies dead. She's heartbroken that he won't get to see the new Galveston grow. The Rugger Teams join her, and Aki gives a heartfelt speech about how Teles will live on in everyone's hearts. He leaves the necklace Kaga had given him a while back with Teles, as a promise that Galveston's people will go on.
The ships launch as planet Galveston goes into its death throes, with the body of Teles consumed in its fires. Keats has some parting thoughts about how in war, there is always an empty feeling even if you win.
Cuts:
Tons was cut from this episode, aside from the obvious violence. The whole scene where Teles breaks from the crowd, leading up to his murder, was cut as was the following scenes with Sirk and the Rugger teams talking near his body. In its place, the dub used extensive flashback scenes because the dub never proposes that Hazar dies or is even injured.
Quote:
"If you young men don't go to another planet and rebuild Galveston, who will? Please rebuild Galveston!" - Teles's dying plea to the three that murdered him, when they refused to evacuate with the others.
Facts:
The episode gives February 9th of Space Year 2203 as the date the Allied forces invaded the Galveston homeworld.
