46. The Fall of the Survey Base

Voltron version: It Could Be A Long War
Synopsis:
Raucher is upset to learn the Earth forces are moving in on the Galveston survey base. Until reinforcements can arrive, he and his men there have to defend that stronghold with their lives.
Meanwhile, Aki thinks back on all they've been through - Galveston's attack on Earth, the sacrifice of Commander Date when they crushed the Front Line Base - and hopes it's not all in vain. Commander Asimov's fleet takes on the fleet of Captain Seidel (Captain Arkul) and Gallo, while the Rugger Teams check out the asteroid for a suspected Galveston base.
Gallo doesn't last long before he's toast (his death was cut, of course, from Voltron), but Seidel manages to pull back to the asteroid in time to save his hide and provide more support for the base. What's worse for the Galvestons is their battle attacker isn't quite ready to go yet. Seidel's fleet regroups and tries to take out Asimov's fleet, but he soon fails. His dying attempt to take out Asimov's flagship likewise fails.
The Rugger Guard and Rugger Teams work on attacking the base. Once the base is so battered they stop fighting back, Aki is told to do recon inside the base to find any info he can on Galveston. Raucher was told by Caponero to defend the base with his life, so he shuttles down to the area where the battle attacker is being prepared. Despite warnings that the beast does not have enough power, Raucher goes ahead with his plan. He personally pilots the battle attacker, hoping to take out the Rugger Guard.
Aki and the others find a star map which shows the Galveston homeworld. But when the battle attacker launches, they rush back to their machines to form Dairugger. Raucher and his machine are put out of commission, and now the location of the homeworld is known...
