31. Locate Enemy Headquarters

Voltron version: Smashing the Meteor Barrier



Synopsis: The Rugger Guard and its fleet are heading toward the Galveston front line base. They have an asteroid belt to go through first - one the Galvestons have rigged with mines. Furthermore, they have two fleets lying in wait for our heroes.

Captain Ducasse is on his way back to the base for resupply, and is due to resume his assualt on Earth. He was ordered to take the long way back, to avoid the Earth fleet, but he has his own ideas. He wants to attack them from behind hoping to drive them into the asteroid belt in a rush.

Meanwhile, Date has convinced Ise not to let Dairugger enter the asteroid belt without investigating it first. They send in an unmanned probe to check things out. They find the belt to be not only dense, but full of mines. Before they can decide how to handle it, Galveston attacks.

Because Ducasse strayed from orders, he is defeated by Date's support fleet - the battle with Earth already had Ducasse at a disadvantage as far as energy and ammo. Dairugger defeats the battle machine, while the Rugger Guard helps hold off another fleet that was waiting to ambush in the asteroid belt, but forced out to try to help Ducasse.

After the immediate threat is gone, the captains and commanders meet to decide how they'll get through the asteroid belt. Staff Officer Yamamoto volunteers to find the path the Galveston fleet must have used to reach them. Before they leave, Haruka gives Aki a good luck charm her mother had given to her before they left Earth. She wants him to have it, explaining that he's the most important member of their team and she doesn't want anything to happen to him.

Yamamoto sacrifices himself to open the path, and when the smoke clears the front line base is before them...
