40. The Boy Denon and the Elk
Voltron version: Red Moon Rises Again
Synopsis:
Teles, Sirk and Raucher continue to monitor the Earth fleet's movements and don't like it. Teles reluctantly okays a move on the fleet, agreeing they are threatening Galveston's mission for a new planet to settle. They send in Butler (Captain Bratso) fleet to manage this task.
Though Teles is not happy about more bloodshed, it's revealed when he reports to Caponero (Throk) the reason - a team he'd sent into the unexplored territory found a very promising planet and they've sent more support there for further analysis. Teles feels he must protect this prospect at all costs.
In the meantime, the Earth fleet lands on Planet 71 to make repairs to part of their second fleet, damaged in the last battle. Walter team is sent to search out drinkable water on the planet, and this is when they encounter a small boy and an elk. Then when they meet the boy, Denon's, tribe they realize they are more of the people from the planet of the red moon.
When Galveston arrives and make trouble, the boy and his deer are caught up in the crossfire. The adult deer gives his life to help Dairugger. At the end, Aki resolves to beat Galveston so no innocents ever get caught up in the conflict again.
Just to editorialize here, but yeah this episode is just as lame in original form as the dub. I guess we can't blame WEP for the lameness of Super Deer --- they didn't have much to work with here lol! Yeah all that slaughter of PEOPLE so far, but they killed two animals so dammit this means war. wtf??
