5. Battle for the Experiment Planet
Voltron version: Try This World For Size
Synopsis:
The Rugger Guard approaches what Drake calls Galveston's experiment planet. Asimov learns that initial analysis of its gases make it unihabitable for humans, but leaves it to Ise to decide if the Teams should survey it anyway. Ise decides it is worthwhile simply for the completion of their galatic star map.
Walter Team is accosted on the way to the planet by Galveston fighters. They are wiped out by the Rugger Teams, leaving Asimov to assume this was the same group that ambushed them in the last episode, only pretending to retreat. That threat removed, the Land Rugger continues its survey while the other two return to the Rugger Guard.
There, several team members get into an argument about the focus of their mission. Doctor Search (Professor Page) declares the star map is the most important objective and that if they keep meeting resistance here, they should move on instead of wasting effort fighting.
Drake moves on both the Rugger Guard and Walter Team on the planet's surface, after they continue to explore the planet. Eventually, Asimov and Ise decide to retreat given the Galveston's obvious stake in the planet and their efforts to improve it. And rather than pursue them, Drake holds back upon realizing why they chose to retreat. Later, Aki worries they left the enemy a planet which they could use as a base for galactic conquest. Doctor Search assures him they did the right thing, as regardless the Galveston's had rightful claim to that world and all indications showed they were trying to improve the environment.
