Name: The Stellar Ship Explorer, aka SS Explorer
Basic Appearance & Info: The massive "mother ship" for the Voltron Force and the main crew, it resembles a giant air craft carrier that navigates the "sea" that is outer space. Indeed, when it lands on a planet it almost always sets down in a large body of water.
Role and/or special abilities: Its function is to troll about the galaxies and explore new worlds in the hopes of finding an inhabitable one that isn't already occupied. It can also hold its own in battle, as well fortified with laser turrets and whatnot as it is.
It's also where the 15 units that comprise Voltron must return to be repaired or refueled after missions, so it's vital to the survival of the entire crew. Not to mention it's their home! The Explorer often travels with a fleet of other smaller ships - support fleets - which are what usually end up sacrificed during wars with the Drules (along with their hapless captains and commanders - though the dubs would lead you to believe otherwise).
Captain Newley (when he's around) and Commander Hawkins have command of the crew.
Major Episode Appearances: It's in all the episodes, but an amusing part concerning the Explorer was in "Nerok Scores Big" when Jeff, in an effort to get to a robeast that had a grip on the Explorer, stabbed the Explorer with the blazing sword instead. Classic! Victim of friendly fire or stupidity...you decide.
