Original U.S. Air Date: 12/18/1984* Synopsis: This one opens with Drule Commander Brack under arrest for treason, and getting shot to death by his officers. But it was all a dream...however, he's still on edge even pulling a gun on Nerok. Nerok notes he must have had some dream to miss the emergency meeting earlier that morning to which Brack replied that he doesn't care for Hazar's "soft treatment" of the Alliance intruders. Nerok also notes Brack was against signing the temporary truce agreement which allowed the Alliance to occupy a planet for 3 days - which are up that morning. Nerok warns Brack to keep his opinions about the treaty and how Hazar handles the Alliance's breaking of it to himself lest his dream comes true. Meanwhile, Jeff is wondering why they aren't leaving given the three days are up - besides, the planet has been deemed useless to them. The hold up seems to be Colonel Cross, commander of the support fleet with the Explorer, who will not leave until he hears from the higher-ups at Galaxy Garrison. Hawkins wants to respect the treaty with the Drules, but Cross is waiting to hear whether the Alliance wants to build a military outpost there - which Hawkins thinks is a bad idea, anyway. Brack can wait no longer and brags to Nerok that he's going to take matters into his own hands - show the alliance who's all-powerful in this neck of the stellar woods. Nerok decries his plan as treason but Brack would rather think of it as "Patriotism". But, before he can act, Brack is confronted by guards who want to place him under arrest per Hazar's orders. However, unlike his dream, Brack has his own guards overpower the ones trying to arrest him and declares himself head of a coup - with Nerok along side him in support. His first move will be to overthrow Hazar. In space, Mongo is on his way to remove the Alliance from the planet on Hazar's orders. He plans to give them one last chance to leave peacefully. Captain Mongo demands that they leave, but Hawkins begs for a bit more time to hear from their high command so Mongo gives him one more hour. Commander Steele, back at Galaxy Garrison, wants them to leave and wonders why there's a delay in ordering them to do so. At the Drule base, Brack and Nerok move in on Hazar's quarters. While his guards block the lazer fire, Hazar escapes in his chair which can sink down into a secret compartment. Hazar demands Brack be arrested. Zabar reports that he is on his way to put down the revolt and that all the commanders - besides Nerok - back him. Nerok is cornered and surrenders, so only Brack is left to lead the revolt. On the planet, the VV force waits in their vehicles on alert, worried that a big fire firght is going to break out. When the hour is up, Mongo demands an answer. The bad news is, Hawkins has not heard from the high command. The good news is, he's ordering his fleet to leave regardless, noting that the Drules are in the right. Cross, however, is concerned that they are leaving without GG orders. Hawkins explains his thinking to Cross and he considers it. But before action can be taken on Cross's fleet, Mongo gets news of the revolt back home and takes off. However, Cross decides to leave even though Mongo's fleet is seemingly letting them off the hook, finally agreeing with Hawkins. The revolt meanwhile, isn't going well for Brack. Hazar gives him one last chance to surrender just as Mongo arrives to give his report - confirming Hazar's suspicion that force wouldn't be necessary to remove the Alliance. This is one episode where Voltron was not used at all. It's also odd that nothing is shown of what happens to Brack - perhaps the reality was too gruesome to show on American screens, so it's only alluded to that Brack's rebellion was a failure. The DXV Difference: I have recently watched the un-subbed original Japanese version of this episode, and now see why Brack's fate was so vague in the US version. It seems he violently commits suicide and hence, that part was cut from the VV version. A few other bloody scenes during the coup were cut as well. comment system disabled temporarily thanks to spam happy assholes! Back to Ep List
