Original U.S. Air Date: 3/5/1985* Synopsis: Hawkins shuttles to a planet where Colonel Cross is over-seeing the construction of a base. Cross notices Hawkins seems edgy, and the Commander cuts to the chase. He explains how he doesn't think it's right for them to be building there as the Drules consider that sector of space their private area. Cross reasons that they're only using the base as a supply headquarters while they explore that area of space - it's not permanent. But Hawkins fears the Drules won't understand and order an all-out attack on the base. Cross suggests Hawkins meet with Hazar and convince him otherwise. Meanwhile, Hazar confers with Brack, Mongo and Nerok about the base and whether or not he should hear out the Alliance in talks. Brack is 100% against any negotiation and wants to rid quadrant B of the Alliance once and for all. Hazar is starting to think that the Drules and the Alliance have similar goals now and that it might be more beneficial to stop fighting and draining resources in favor of cooperating with them. Mongo agrees that it won't hurt to talk with them and leaves. Brack, of course, is thoroughly disgusted. The Explorer makes contact with a Drule fleet and the teams are put on alert just in case. Mongo and Hawkins discuss how the meeting is to proceed, though at first Hawkins is miffed he can't speak directly with Hazar. But the Drules like to do things there way, and Hawkins just hopes Mongo has enough influence to actually follow through on any agreements made. Hawkins makes the risky move of demanding the meeting be in person, offering to either come to Mongo's ship or have Mongo board the Explorer. Mongo opts for Hawkins to meet with him on his own turf. Hawkins leaves on a shuttle and the team leaders worry about treachery and hostage situations. Unfortunately, Brack informs Mongo right before the meeting that he's going to attack while the negotiations are going on. Mongo is not pleased, as he wants to actually give the conference a serious attempt, but is powerless to stop Brack. The crew on the Explorer detects Brack's fleet and puts out an alert to Colonel Cross. Newley sees it as a sign of doom for the conference. Meanwhile, Hawkins is just sitting down to talk with Mongo when a guard rushes in and whispers to him about Brack's activities. Hawkins is alarmed and, instead of stalling him like Brack wanted, Mongo is honest and tells him they'd better get to talking. At the meeting, Hawkins proposes they join forces given they're after the same thing - livable planets for their crowded people. However, Mongo is hesitant but doesn't want to reveal how dire the Drule's needs actually are. He only tells Hawkins a joint force would slow things too much for the Drules. Mongo also brings up the fact that the Alliance is building a base on their planet. Hawkins agrees that it wasn't right and promises to have the base dismantled if the Drules join with them in exploring. Mongo counters with the terms of the planet being abandoned, THEN they could talk about uniting. Hawkins doesn't see those terms as entirely reasonable and they're soon at a stalemate. On the planet, Brack has arrived and ignores Cross's plea to wait on the results of the conference before fighting. Immediately both sides erupt in battle. When word reaches Mongo and Hawkins at the conference, at first Hawkins is stunned and angry with Mongo. But when Mongo swears he hadn't planned the attack, Hawkins extends his hand in friendship. Hawkins is allowed to leave without incident, but the Voltron Force waits on his orders to go out and help the base manage Brack's fleet and robeast. Mongo simply leaves with his fleet leaving Brack out to dry. With Hawkins' release, the teams form Voltron and head to the planet. However, most of the base has been laid to waste and Jeff mentions that it was fortunate they had had enough time to evacuate. Voltron still comes in and kicks ass to save what's left. Brack is loathe to retreat, but eventually he's forced to do so. Cross concludes that neither side has actually won. Hawkins simply hopes there are more honorable Drules such as Mongo so that peace will someday have a chance. "An officer of your *low rank* is not authorized to talk to Hazar." - Mongo, explaining why Hawkins must speak with him and not Hazar. "I wouldn't trust those Drule creeps as far as I could throw an asteroid." - Cric. Soldier: Sir, we're outmatched! Brack: Don't you ever say I'm outmatched. Soldier: Correction, sir. I should have said out-witted. "Nobody ever wins when you fight first and talk later." - Colonel Cross. comment system disabled temporarily thanks to spam happy assholes! Back to Ep List
