Original U.S. Air Date: 12/19/1984* Synopsis: In this episode, Colonel Cross is glad to see a brand new base completed on a planet and is proud to be presiding over it. He sees the Explorer off, everyone figuring the base will be ok defense-wise until the Alliance can send more support. The Explorer and her fleet go on their merry way and Cross enjoys some peace and quiet on the base. However, that peace is soon shattered by the Drules. Nerok has his fleet move in and the Alliance fighter planes are no contest for the Drule forces. Lesser officers under Cross's command want to call the Explorer but Cross is too proud to allow them to do it. (I love the line where Cross insists his subordinate not call the Explorer. When the officer threatens to do it anyway, Cross demands, "Do you want to be court martialed?" to which he answers, "I want to live"). So, the fighting rages on with the Explorer crew unaware. Back on the Explorer, the team is enjoying an art show. Cric breaks away when he's hit with a strong feeling that something is wrong on the base. He pages Jeff and asks him to call in to the base to make sure everything's ok. When Hawkins can't raise the base on the radio, the Voltron Force is dispatched to investigate. They arrive to find the base a shambles. Nerok, noting the arrival of the Voltron Force, unleashes his latest robeast. For whatever reason, Jeff doesn't see this huge beast in his flight path until it's too late. He crashes into it before crashing to the earth. Nerok urges his forces to destroy the Voltron Force before they can form Voltron. Desperate after being unable to contact Jeff, who is out cold, Cric and Cliff decide to form Voltron without him. It's a success, but being headless seems to put Voltron at quite a disadvantage. But, the move did buy them enough time for Jeff to come to and make Voltron whole. In the end, they declare the base a loss but Cross and what's left of his crew are said to have plans to rebuild. I dunno though, the editing looked funky and if I had to guess, I'd say Cross and his lot bought the farm in the battle in the DXV version ;) comment system disabled temporarily thanks to spam happy assholes!
