Drule Chronology
Ok, there are a lot of freakin' Drules and they can be hard to keep straight and track their story lines. So I thought I could review my eps, while watching the Drule scenes closely, to grab pics, names and other details - particularly chronicaling Hazar's reformation to a true ambassador of peace.
It really needs its own page for a complete overview, but I list Drules only when they're given a name or a title of some sort as many are shown on screen for a bit before actually being named or referenced. I made one exception so far to this rule, and that was because the guy commanded an attack fleet and was never shown again, so he at least deserved a pic and a mention.
Spellings of names are largely guesswork on my part - other than Nerok and Hazar, that is, whose names are actually featured in episode titles - as it's hard to find much licensed stuff in print to compare it to. Plus sometimes it's really hard to catch the names, especially when spoken only once or twice by a robot. Feel free to use some creative license yourself.
Drule useless trivia:
**Ranks sometimes change from ep to ep without warning, or even within the same ep. I will refer to each Drule by the most consistant rank they're given.
**Sometimes officers with the same looks are called by different names, too. Or they have different voices from ep to ep. I will refer to each Drule by the most conistant name they're given.
**Zabar's voice is identical to Prince Lotor's most of the time, while Hazar's voice is a lot like Zarkon's. The more weasely a Drule looks, the more nasal a voice he's given.
**Only the female Drules seem to have eyebrows - the men lack them, for the most part.
**Off the top of my head, and in no particular order, Drules that had the longest runs or most screen time over all in the show were Hazar, Mongo, Nerok, Zabar, Keezor and Borgam. Other Drules were pretty important, such as Throk, Keezor, Dorma and Zeppo but they had sporadic screentime throughout. Otherwise, there was a whole bunch of one-shot captains or at the most, they lasted 2-3 eps before getting dispatched - usually meaning they were killed in DXV.

Hazar starts to show signs of compassion, not seeing "honor" in attacking a peaceful fleet. First "demotion" here by Throk, as Captain of a Tug ship. Mongo put in charge of attack forces. Near ep's end, Hazar "straigthens things out" and is back in command, ordering Mongo's retreat. Mongo and Hazar have a bit of an adversarial relationship at this point.

Drules Appearing:
evil!Hazar
Fleet Commander - Captain Brack
Captain Mongo
Notes: Brack has been mean since he was a child, is "irresponsible imbecile", but also popular with the council and why Hazar can't be rid of him. Hazar's motive for leaving the Alliance alone this time is rooted in disinterest in the planet and thwarting Brack's ambitions. Hence, still evil.
Brack seems to be first to directly defy Hazar.
Quote: "If he calls again, tell him I've defected and joined the Voltron Force." - Brack.
- Planet Stop For Repairs
Drules Appearing:
quasi-evil!Hazar
Fleet Commander - Captain Nerok
Captain Mongo, Captain Brack, Captain Zabar
Notes: Hazar doesn't want an attack, but still his motivations aren't necessarily for the sake of peace - just that Drule has no claim on this current planet so fighting isn't necessary. Nerok ignores this in favor of his own ambitions, and to win his bet with Brack.
Brack later accuses Hazar of wanting peace while they need a new world, and they should attack the vulnerable Voltron force to ensure their success. Hazar points out they only need one new world, not the entire galaxy...his position is starting to turn.
Mongo starting to assert loyalty to Hazar, some agreement. However, with Zabar agreeing with Brack, Nerok and most of the council, Hazar relents and allows Nerok to attack though he fears it will spark a wasteful full-scale war they don't have time to fight.
Quote:"How wise and noble of him. I would have done it without his permission!" - Nerok's reaction to gaining Hazar's blessing to attack.
- A Curious Comet
Drules Appearing:
conflicted!Hazar
Fleet Commanders - Captain Nerok, Captain Mongo
Captain Brack, Captain Zabar
Notes: Both Mongo and Hazar in favor of attacking the Alliance here at first, feeling they need the world they're on. Although, both express a little doubt in there, too. But then Hazar goes entirely the other way, telling Mongo to call off his attack and try to negotiate a "real peace" as it's the only way they'll all survive.
- In the Enemy Camp
Drules Appearing:
conflicted!Hazar
Fleet Commander - Captain Brack
Captain Nerok, Captain Mongo
Notes: Hazar is willing to talk peace, in the hopes of meeting mutual goals with the Alliance instead of wasting resources fighting them. Brack vehemently disagrees, sensing a trick. Mongo is willing to talk, though, and sets up a meeting. Mongo is sincere and forthright with Hawkins. Marks first face to face meeting between officers on both sides.
Hazar says Drule motivation for a new world is to ease overcrowding, just like the Alliance's goal. However, Brack mentioned a few eps back that their world was in danger of blowing up, thus a more dire need for them.
Also here, Brack mentions Drules have enslaved every planet in their galaxy. (So why not move on in?)
- Who's On First

Drules Appearing:
conflicted!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Mongo
Captain Brack, Captain Nerok, unamed Captain of the Guard, Captain Zabar
Notes: Brack's pissed at Hazar for allowing more talks with the Alliance, instead of kicking them off the planet they're trying to establish a base on - remaining was against their earlier treaty.
All the other captains back Hazar and soon put down Nerok's part in it. Brack's revolt falls apart next.
Mongo again doubts the Empire's war mongering ways as the Explorer leaves the planet in peace.
Brack exits series -
VV: He's "going to another planet" in his disgust with the new way Hazar is handling things.
DXV: He commits suicide by shooting himself in the head after his revolt fails.
Quote: "Not treason - I call it patriotism." - Brack, referring to his plan to overthrow Hazar.
- No, Who's On Second

Drules Appearing:
conflicted!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Nerok
Captain Raddick, Captain Mongo, Commander Vargo, Chancellor Mordok, Captain Zabar
Notes: Hazar is conflicted here as his latest plan is to lull the Alliance into thinking the Drules are serious about peace, all the while plotting to strike when their guard is down. Secretly, he still wonders if real peace is the answer.
*Mention of a time warp the Drules apprently use to travel.
*Mordok claims Drule will explode from an internal chain reaction during the next lunar cycle.
*Planet Terra and Planet Earth are referenced as two seperate worlds, though both appear to be GA mainstays. First time Drules consider invading one to take over.
Quotes: "This used to be a council of war, but it's turned into a group of weaklings and fools." - Nerok
"You're just jealous because we'll win and I'll be in charge of everything this side of the Far Universe." - Nerok to Hazar.
- What's On First

Drules Appearing:
Fleet Commanders: Captain Gorvan, Captain Nerok
Notes: Nerok claims Hazar was demoted to be in charge of the slave dungeons on Drule, and orders Gorvan to stop his peaceful co-exploration with the Explorer.
Gorvan reluctant, but ultimately follows Nerok's orders.
- Great Stone Space Faces

Drules Appearing:
conflicted!Hazar
Fleet commander: Captain Nerok
Chancellor Mozak (Viceroy, here), Captain Gorvan
Notes: *Home planet situation getting worse; Mozak urges finding a suitable planet over fighting with the Alliance. Blame here for destruction of Drule on a "transient sun" entering their orbit.
*Mozak references Drule "wizards", who are unable to do anything about the transient sun.
*Hazar considers invading Earth. Mozak talks him out of it.
Quote:"The monsters of Nebb. What a lovely thought to come out of that tin head of yours." - Nerok, liking a robot's idea about how to attack the Alliance on Nebb without stoking the ire of the Drule Council.
- Defend the New World
Drules Appearing:
Conflicted!Hazar
Fleet commander: Captain Nerok
Captain Mongo
Notes: Hazar is still waffling as to which is better for his people overall - running the Alliance out of the galaxy and warring, or making real peace. Leaning toward peace but still reflects on doubts.
*That shiny thing on Hazar's wrist was called the Bracelet of Zeron and it somehow shows Hazar has authority, power. No further explanation is ever given about it, however.
*References to the Drule "great one" and "founder" here - perhaps Zeppo?
- Meanwhile Back At Galaxy Garrison
Drules Appearing:
None
- Nerok Scores Big

Drules Appearing:
converted!Hazar
Fleet commanders: Captain Nerok, Captain Mongo
Marshall Keezor
Notes: *Hazar demoted by decree of the Supreme Council from his command in sector R-4, to be replaced by Keezor's command.
*Hazar assures Mongo he is a good friend, even as Mongo reluctantly readies to follow Keezor's orders to attack the incoming Alliance supply fleet.
Quotes: "A cobra and a mouse cannot sit at the same table." - Keezor's way of saying that those left behind after Hazar leaves should agree with his anti-peace philosophy or leave.
"I'll do what must be done. My heart just isn't in it." - Mongo, moments before he heads the attack on the fleet.
- Hazar On The Carpet
Drules Appearing:
converted!Hazar
Fleet commanders: Captain Mongo, Captain Nerok
Marshall Keezor (erm, he's refered to as Chief Commander Mordok once, too), Captain Zabar
Notes: Presumably carried over from the last episode, Mongo launches his attack on the support fleet and loses.
*Brain breaking inconsistancy: Right after Mongo's defeat, a robot informs Hazar that *his* battle plan failed so he is to be court martialed immediately. But in the last ep, Hazar was taken out of command and this fight was on Keezor's order, not Hazar's!
Rather than suffer the humiliation and dishonor of court martial, Hazar simply leaves the base for parts unknown. Keezor is just glad to be rid of him.
* Mongo reflects on whether this will be his final battle after years of being a soldier, and whether he will ever see Drule again, even though it is ravaged by the effects of the transient sun.
Quotes: "I will never admit defeat to a mere supply convoy." - Mongo, too proud to retreat.
"Pull your bolts together." - Mongo to the robeast pilot, minutes before it's destroyed by the supply convos onslaught. Also one of few Robeasts NOT defeated by Voltron.
Mongo makes his exit from the series.
VV: He says he'll board his escape capsule when the battle turns for the worst, but cannot return to the Empire a failure. He exiles himself, and in the next episode, Hazar claims he used some experimental time machine to leave the area for good - never to return.
DXV: He goes down with the ship, dying in that battle.
- Hazar Is Demoted
Drules Appearing:
reformed!Hazar
Marshall Keezor, Captain Nerok, Dorma, Chancellor Mozak, Durax, Viceroy Throk, Emporer Zeppo, Blazak, Hazar's mother
Notes: This time, Hazar is in trouble for giving up a battle and a planet and is due at a trial before the Supreme Council on Drule.
Hazar seems fully converted to the idea of peace here, seeing it as necessary for their survival and bent on convincing the others of the same.
Ultimately, Hazar is no longer commander of all Drule forces. He's exiled to the "useless" planet Dreska a fate Mozak declares is worse than the slave dungeons.
Throk states he is the new commander of the Drule forces.
If you want to see some real crack-writing on the part of WEP, check out the transcript of this ep. Worst among the parts is the fact Hazar recalls a battle we were never shown up to this point....it's not just the Drule people confused here, folks! Especially his recollections at his parents' house about Mongo's last fight and how Mongo almost had Voltron...but a few eps back when Mongo fought last, Voltron wasn't even there! He lost to a supply convoy >.<
Quote:"Next time it won't be a tomato." - An angry Drule citizen's warning to Hazar, after throwing what looked more like a rock at Hazar.
- Just Like Earth

Drules Appearing:
Fleet commander: some bald, Brack clone. Didn't have a name that I caught, anyway.
Marshall Keezor
Notes: *Keezor mentioned as their great leader, inferring he is yet in charge.
- The Planet Trap

Drules Appearing:
Fleet commander: Captain Zabar.
Marshall Keezor, Captain Nerok, Menak
Notes: *Mentions the plot to trap the Alliance on the "glowing planet" (Halo) is Hazar's plan, and Keezor expresses confidence this will work. wtf?
*Idea is to get the Voltron Force out of the way so plans to attack Earth can proceed.
*Zabar is said to be captured. Who has bets that he bought the farm in DXV? : raises hand :
*Nerok is put in charge of the attack forces in Zabar's absense while Keezor strangely grovels to try to figure out a way to explain this to Hazar, even though he's freakin' exiled and stripped of power last we knew. Jeez, WEP!
- Save the Space Station

Drules Appearing:
Fleet commander: Captain Nerok.
Marshall Keezor, Captain Zabore
Notes: Basic plot here with the Drules is this: they want to attempt to overrun and destroy a crucial space station of the Alliance's. Keezor asserts that victory here will all but guarantee the Explorer's mission will be doomed and the intruders will be forced to leave. In this task they fail miserably, and pretty much without Voltron's interference.
*Marks Nerok's series exit. VV says he escapes his exploding ship, but in DXV, he burned with it. See the media section of the site for a clip of that.
*Zabore's name is not only close to Zabar's, but he too sports the voice of Prince Lotor as well. He also proves that there's a type of blond on Drule other than the plantinum variety.
*I noticed the Drules have taken to saying "Hail!" as they salute in this ep. Yeah, I think you can fill in the blanks of that reference yourselves.
Quote: "Nerok is not as sharp-witted as I would like, but he's enthusiastic and cunning. And he has one great virtue - he's loyal." - Keezor on Nerok. And maybe it's just me, but how can one be dim-witted and cunning at the same time?
- Planet of the Amazons
Drules Appearing:
Fleet commander: Captain Zabore.
Marshall Keezor
Notes: The Drules don't want the Voltron Force befriending Neffra's bunch o' gals, so they send Zabore out to ensure she gets the wrong idea about them.
There are no men on Eldora because the Drules enslaved them all, according to Zabore.
*In this ep, Zabore's voice is no longer such a ringer for Lotor's - rather it's more like a teenaged Lotor. But his name is said more like Zabar's was pronounced, adding to some confusion.
Quotes: "Have you ever seen a Drule? Do I look like one?" - Jeff, upon being accused by the Eldorans of being a Drule.
"Abandon ship and report to me. I'll really show you a bad time." - Keezor to Zabore, after Zabore told him that he caught him at a bad time.
- Revolt of the Slaves

Drules Appearing:
Fleet commander: Captain Gorzil.
Commander Flazon
Notes: The Drules have slaves from different worlds on volcanic planet Vema, and have heard rumors of a plotted revolt. The slaves are there to mine Veman iron and ore for the Drules.
Voltron Force just happens to be coming by to explore and end up aiding the rebels in their revolt.
I would say both Flazon and Gorzil bought the farm in DXV, given this is their one shot appearance.
- Raid On Galaxy Garrison

Drules Appearing:
Fleet commander: Captain Dirka.
Notes: In this ep, the Drules finally move to raid Earth. They start by knocking out a spacestation and in the process, taking out the solar energy refractors needed to power Voltron. Newley also reports that over 30% of the Alliance's forces have been crippled by the Drules.
The Drules are not foiled by Voltron, but rather by the arrival of a support fleet from planet Argus. Dirka is said to back out his forces upon their arrival.
*Me being the moron I am, I always thought Dirka's name was Zerka. I need to start opening my ears more.
Quotes: "Now concentrate the full attack on Galaxy Headquarters. And then drop the sky on them!" - Dirka
"Keep hitting Garrison City. When it falls, the rest of the planet falls." - Dirka.
- Smashing the Meteor Barrier

Drules Appearing:
Fleet commander: Captain Maldon (Dirka's twin?)
Marshall Keezor
Notes: Basically, the Drules have booby-trapped an asteroid field with mines. Maldon and an unseen Captain Garp are to attack the Alliance from behind, forcing them into the dangerous asteroids. Captain Zerg, also mentioned but not shown, in the forward combat group, will be waiting to finish them off anyway.
Keezor hopes that with the Explorer and her fleet out of the way, "nothing can stop them from attacking Earth". What, again?
Maldon's ambitions screw it up, for instead of refueling and getting supplies before making his presence known to the Alliance, he attacks first and without Garp's backup.
I would say Maldon (or Dirka, whichever you prefer) makes an exit here, despite the dub's assurance he mans an escape pod first. In fact, I know he did. I went and watched the DXV equivelent just to watch his dumbass blow up.
- A Man Made Sun

Drules Appearing:
Marshall Keezor, Supro
Notes: Perhaps carried over from the previous episode, Voltron has found and is moving in on a Drule base, one that houses a Robeast Factory. This plays right into Keezor's plan as he hopes to trap and incinerate the Voltron Force when they go on foot inside the base. These plans quite literally backfire. Can we say 'kablooie'?
*This is Keezor's swan song in DXV - he got wasted with the base. See a clip in the media section of the site.
*Supro is the lamest Drule name, possibly ever. This fellow appeared in many eps prior, actually, but never got a name til now.
Quote: "When they enter the solar furnace they'll roast like turkeys." - Keezor, predicting the fate of the Voltron Force and getting it so wrong.
- Captain Newley Returns

Drules Appearing:
Fleet Commander: Captain Mozan
Emperor Zeppo, Durax, Viceroy Throk, Karsh
Notes:
The Drules have Captain Mozan checking out Planet Crodak, a place similar to Earth, for robeast testing. Durax seems to think this is ideal, his sights still set on invading Earth. But Zeppo is not so keen on that right now, favoring the destruction of Voltron first and foremost. Durax is promised Planet Argus to appease him if they succeed. They don't.
- Hazar Bucks the Empire

Drules Appearing:
reformed!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Bardo (note, this is not the same Bardo that appears in "This World's For the Birds")
Dorma, Chancellor Mozak, Captain Bratso, Captain Toxic, Captain Twila
Commander Borgam
Notes:
Dorma sends a message to the Alliance regarding a request for them to meet with Hazar for peace talks (heeeee's back!) - Hazar is still languishing away in exile on Dreska. He wishes to ask the Alliance if they will help the Drules find a new home.
The message was intercepted and Hazar is called before a council of his peers. His father calls in to offer his support (Mozak notes that he tried to broker for peace when he was Chancellor, but failed. This implies he's no longer Chancellor). Mozak warns him that since the news is out, there may be "generals" plotting against Hazar's efforts.
Borgam shows up and offers his assistance to help Hazar with the "phony" peace talks. Hazar learns that Bardo has already been sent to ambush the Voltron Force on Planet Barren. Hazar wants the plot called off, for he is sincere, and Borgam doesn't understand why he would be. Hazar is derided as a weakling by Borgam.
*Here, Hazar claims it's the Drule's warfare that destroyed the protective asteroid belt around their home world, allowing ultraviolet rays to destroy it, and it is the reason the Drules must quickly find a new world. This would be planetary boom theory number 3,456.
*Ok, I take back what I said earlier. Toxic is the worst Drule name ever.
Quotes: "I can't trust anyone or anything anymore." - Hazar, getting a demotion to Caption Obvious!
"How stupid it is to try to conquer other worlds when you're losing your home world?" - Hazar.
- Letters From Home

Drules Appearing:
reformed!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Vallen
Dorma, Commander Borgam
Notes:
Borgam is plotting once more against the Alliance, while it is said that Hazar is trying to rally the people against him. Borgam is not concerned, for he sees Hazar as too powerless to do any damage.
Quotes: "There is nothing to fear from a toothless tiger." - Borgam's assessment of what a threat Hazar's speaking out against him poses.
"Hazar, you keep to yourself -you brood. What you do not do is take action. Many would follow you if you took things into your own hands." - Dorma.
- Peace! A Fish Story
Drules Appearing:
reformed!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Commander Borgam
Dorma, Captain Vallen
Notes:
Opens with Hazar lamenting his situation to Dorma, exiled on Dreska. He notes that Dreska is a desolate outpost stationed on a lifeless world that is also slowly dying.
Dorma needles Hazar again to take action, being the only one with enough common sense to see full scale war with the Alliance will spell the end of the Drule race. But Hazar feels helpless, and stripped of "all power to act".
He finally agrees that he'll try to make peace again with the Alliance. Hazar holds a meeting, conceding to Borgam that his being put "in charge" of Dreska over Borgam puts Borgam in an awkward position but Hazar asks for his help in the peace talks anyway.
Even though Borgam insists that destroying the Alliance is his idea of a worthy goal, Hazar sends him to make a peace treaty with the Alliance anyway. Ugh.
Borgam sabotages the talks, of course, and Hazar is back at square one.
*This is the second time Hawkins has met face to face with a Drule officer to talk about peace. The first time was with Mongo, who was actually more sincere.
Quotes: "Still a commander, yes. But in command of what?" - Hazar on his plight.
"What can I do? I've been demoted. I'm just one of the troops now." - Borgam, after Hazar asks for his help.
"The galaxy alliance has always been our arch enemy, and so they shall remain." - Borgam, after being sent by Hazar to make peace.
"The alliance won't have to defeat us. We'll soon defeat ourselves." - Hazar, after being betrayed by Borgam.
- The Red Moon People
Drules Appearing:
conflicted!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Twila
Commander Borgam, Dorma
Notes:
Hazar again ponders the state of his home world, noting that all people now live underground for the surface is lifeless and uninhabitable. He knows time is short for them. He reiterates the asteroid belt/ultraviolet ray reason for the destruction.
Surprisingly, Hazar says the Alliance is what's keeping them from finding a new world and says nothing when Borgam orders Twila off to lead an attack fleet. He seems to be waffling on peace efforts, finding it hard to balance the needs of his people while trying to deal with the Alliance.
The Alliance's mission has shifted since a few episodes back (around "Planet of the Amazons") to trying to find the Drule's "home base".
Twila seems content to let the Voltron Force find out why the place they're exploring is called the "devil's planet", letting the natives do her dirty work. Dorma contacts her to remind her not to let the units merge into Voltron if she wants to win, which is quite a switch for Dorma.
Twila does send out a robeast to attack while the air team is disabled and held captive, but eventually, the plan fails. The robots in the robeast note, however, that Voltron only has five minutes of stored energy which lets us know the Drules are aware of this so-called limitation that only seems to apply when a cheap plot device is needed.
- This World's For the Birds

Drules Appearing:
converted!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Twila, w/ Bardo tagging along.
Commander Borgam, Dorma
Notes: Hazar once again trusts Borgam to organize a so-called joint exploration between the Drules and Alliance of Planet Nesto, even though Hazar reminds Borgam that he'd betrayed Hazar last time.
They seem sincere, but treachery once again is Borgam's plan, for he wants to win command of that sector back from Hazar. He figures when the Alliance see a woman heading their fleet, they'll think the Drules are sincere.
Everyone seems very protective of Twila, and Bardo even may have a thang for the female Drule captain. But she has her pride and ultimately refuses Hawkins' offer for peace while in captivity.
Apparently, she let them know Hazar really does want peace, for Hawkins mentions it when trying to get Twila to see things that way. She escapes, returns to her ship and finishes what she started. In VV, she's said to escape her wrecked ship. But we know better.
*Twila is considered a top scientist, and was one reason she was chosen to lead this joint exploration mission.
*Twila is the second Drule to be captured and come aboard the Explorer. The first was the soldier, Sandu.
*This "Bardo" must have found Planet Rogaine. He's got hair, for starters, and otherwise looks nothing like the Drule in prior episodes called Bardo. Way to go with consistency on that one, WEP! Then again, maybe the name Bardo is like "Bob" or "Jim" here...common on Drule. Yeah. That's it!
*Since Dorma is never given a rank, Twila is the only female Drule of rank in the whole show.
*This ep is the end for Twila, for she dies in the kamakaze attempt on the Explorer in the DXV version, as does Bardo. She is said to escape in a shuttle in VV, and it's assumed, Bardo with her. Watch the clip in the media area.
Quote: "She's a beautiful but stubborn woman. I hope she doesn't get hurt. Any robot that fails her will be junked." - Bardo.
- That's The Old Ball Game

Drules Appearing:
reformed!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Danton.
Lt. Antor, Commander Borgam, Dorma
Notes: The Voltron Force has demolished the Drules' main supply base on Planet Erbie and have taken some soldiers captive.
On one hand, Hazar is upset the supply base was overran, but at the same time, he does not want time wasted on recapturing it. Not to mention he realizes their own men could be hurt, the ones that had been taken captive, if they launch an attack to take the base back. He tells Borgam to order Captain Danton to resume searching for a livable planet and forget about Erbie.
Hazar is still operating out of Dreska at this point.
Antor is a young leuitenant who is open to the idea that the Alliance aren't a bunch of imperialists, but holds little hope of ever convincing his leaders. He also confesses that like Cric, he too sometimes gets those premonitions.
Antor and Danton both die in DXV when Danton launches an attack, a clip of which you can view by visiting the site's media area.
Quote: Borgam: "Hazar no longer rules the Supreme Council. However, he is in command of that remote outpost to which he's been exiled."
Danton: "I wish I could understand you but my hearing has suddenly gone bad."
Borgam: "Too bad. And good luck." - the two of them, conspiring to disobey Hazar yet again. Technically, Borgam did tell him not to do it, but Danton didn't "hear" him, ha ha.
"He has directly disobeyed my orders. I am cursed with commanders who are fools!" - Hazar, after learning of Danton's betrayal.
- Red Moon Rises Again

Drules Appearing:
conflicted!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Bratso (at any rate, looks like him!)
Lt. Antor, Commander Borgam, Dorma, Viceroy Throk (dubbed "supreme commander" here)
Notes: On Dreska, Borgam pushes to attack the Alliance while they're weak, fearing they'll stumble onto their homeworld if left to their own devices. Dorma sees no wisdom in starting a "pointless conflict" but Hazar reluctantly gives Borgam the green light to attack.
For their part, the Alliance has actually switched gears due to a lack of a second fleet, and are no longer seeking the Drule's home planet. They're going to do guard duty on Planet 71.
After the ships launch, Hazar reveals he knows the decision is wrong but lacks the authority to really stop it anyway.
In the meantime, Throk calls to see how the planet search is going, noting the Emperor is miffed that this task is taking Hazar far too long.
Quote: "I gave up trying to figure out how a Drule is going to think a long time ago, Cliff." - Hawkins. Hmm, kinda how at this point I've given up hoping there's a coherent and logical story line for the Drules as dubbed by WEP! Can't really blame Hawkins, here.
- Another Solar System

Drules Appearing:
Fleet Commanders: Captain Garrow, Commander Valen
reformed!Hazar, Dorma, Borgam
Notes:
The Drules are checking out a viable planet they hope to immigrate to, when the Voltron Force shows up. The good news about the planet is relayed to Commander Hazar, who is still on Dreska. The planet is similar to how Drule used to be, and is in another solar system entirely (so, if we're going with the 'transient sun' theory for their home planet's woes, that's solved!)
Dorma hopes this news restores Hazar back to his 'rightful place' on the Council.
Meanwhile, the Voltron teams explore the planet and conclude it must not be the Drules' home turf. They're wary the Drules might be lurking around, knowing they have explored that area of the universe, but are detected despite trying to fly below radar.
Garrow orders a retreat in light of this news, knowing he doesn't have the military power to drive them off and reenforcements would take too long.
In a meeting, Borgam tells Hazar of these developments and Hazar is upset. They don't want to provoke a war, but retreating means they cede a planet they themselves need badly to the Alliance. Hazar chastises Borgam for not sending Vargo in the first place. When Borgam responds that Vargo is aging and no longer enjoys the thrills of battle, that's precisely why Hazar suggested him. Borgam is in favor of blasting the VF off their planet, but Hazar orders him not to take it by force - he wants to negotiate.
The VF quickly realizes the Drules were there first, and worry they'll be back with a bigger force to reclaim the planet.Depsite the Drules' best efforts to destroy their research before they fled, the teams salvage some in an effort to figure out what their plans for the planet had been. They realize the solar system is an exact duplicate of Earth's, down to the last detail, and that they are on the Earth-like planet.
Commander Valen (different from the last guy with a similar name from a few eps back, though both have horrible scars on their faces) is sent to the planet to run the negotiations, but once again, Hazar sends a blood thirsty hound to be diplomatic. Defying direct orders, he attacks an incoming Alliance fleet (Newley's).
Interesting fact: Hutch makes a remark about not understanding the info the Drules left behind because he can't read their language.
Quote:
"Don't worry. Keezor backs me and so does the Supreme Commander. I will be praised and promoted for what I'm about to do." - Valen, seconds before he defies Hazar's orders.
- Whose World Is It?

Drules Appearing:
reformed!Hazar
Fleet Commanders: Captain Valen (demoted, haha...no, just more WEP inconsistancy. Uh, plus he looks like Vallen, now. wtf?), Captain Noran
Notes:
The Drules and the Alliance play a waiting game, with the Drules back on the planet with a big enough force to cause trouble. This holds, til Valen doesn't like the Sea Team's spying and orders it attacked. Hazar is incensed and won't send Valen a robeast. Valen decides to stage a mock retreat.
Er, despite Valen's begging for a robeast he was refused a second ago, one shows up and picks a fight with Voltron. Afterward, the Explorer approaches Valen's fleet alone and Noran urges him to at least see what they have to say.
Hawkins and Noran talk, with Hawkins demanding to meet Hazar face to face. The ep ends with the Drules withdrawing to prepare for 'talks'.
Quote:
"Don't tell me you've caught Hazar's do-nothing sickness, too." - Valen, to Noran who also urges him to try to talk to the Alliance.
"You don't win a war by talking. You only give the enemy a good chance to size you up." - Valen
- It's Anybody's World
Drules Appearing:
reformed!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Valen (dark haired version)
Borgam, Dorma, Captain Noran, Viceroy Throk (referenced as Supreme Commander, here)
Notes:
Hazar prepares to meet with Hawkins and Newley, though Borgam makes it known he thinks negotiations are a waste of time. Borgam does have a point that they were there first, but Hazar again is trying to avoid a costly war to gain it back.
Hazar arrives with an impressive fleet and two robeasts - after all, he did say to Borgam they'd take the planet by force if their negotiations fail. After Noran agrees to some conditions Hawkins has for the meeting (mostly, to ensure they're not going to get ambushed again), the meeting commences. Hawkins takes Newley with him, while Hazar has Noran by his side.
The Alliance agrees to accept the Drule claim on the planet, knowing the home world crisis they face, and will let them immigrate. But, they want the Drules to lay down arms and give up their ambitions to rule the Galaxy. When Hazar reports back to Throk, he's insulted and still sees the Alliance as protecting their own domination ambitions. He has no plans to honor the request.
Meanwhile, Hawkins learns from the VF that natives have been discovered on the planet. Apparently the Drules were unaware of this, too. Now they have to come to terms with the natives, plus the Alliance insists the Drules disarm. Throk of course, will have none of it and orders Hazar to insist the Alliance leave and if they won't, to force them.
Though Hazar tells them he will defy his orders and leave the planet in peace, Newley isn't so sure suggesting they leave part of a fleet behind to make sure this happens.Hazar orders Noran and Valen to start looking for another planet in seperate quadrants, but Valen makes a bee line back to the planet they just left.
Valen attacks the fleets left behind, but the VF soon rallies resulting in Valen having to make a quick escape in his 'escape ship'.
Hazar notes the planet survived the war, but also knows Valen must have been ordered to attack from higher up. Meanwhile, Hawkins and Newley conclude much the same, and realize that to help Hazar's cause they have to find the Drule's home base and defeat the high command. Both worry what will become of Hazar in the meantime, for disobeying orders.
Quote:
"Borgam, you have not been dismissed! I am in command here and I will use my authority to handle the situation as I see fit!" - Hazar, demanding that Borgam respect his authoritay.
"Nothing is more important than honor and pride." - Throk
"Bwahaha! All this destruction warms my heart." - Valen
- Frozen Assets

Drules Appearing:
Fleet Commanders: Captain Hammew, Captain Jemka
reformed!Hazar
Captain Shigormo, Dorma, Commander Borgam
Notes:
On a frozen planet, a Drule fleet makes like they're disabled in the hopes the Voltron Force will be tricked again.
Back on Dreska,
Captain Shigormo teleports in his ship to deliver some news to the beleagured Hazar.
Shigormo announces that Hazar is relieved of command and ordered back to the homeworld, with Borgam to replace him in command.
Shigormo tells Borgam, after Hazar leaves to comply with the orders, that there won't be a third chance for Hazar. He is going to be court martialed on his return. Hazar realizes their plan to attack on the frozen world (planet 10) but is powerless to intervene.
When Hammew's plot goes awry, he requests help from Jemka's fleet - but Jemka leaves him hanging out to dry. He tends up retreating in defeat.
Quote:
"First and last I'm a loyal Drule. No matter what happens I can't plot or rebel against the Empire." - Hazar's response to Dorma's suggestion that they flee and gather like-minded Drules to overthrow their rogue government.
- Coconuts

Drules Appearing:
reformed!Hazar
Fleet Commander: Captain Zutka
Borgam, Dorma
Notes:
Hazar begins his journey from Dreska back to his homeworld for punishment, per orders in the last ep (whoa, is that actual continuity??)
Again, Dorma pushes for Hazar to lead a rebellion, but he refuses to 'run'.
No sooner than Hazar is off Dreska, does Commander Borgam - now in command at that outpost, sends Captain Zutka off to attack the Alliance.
The action will take place on a planet called Aloha, where the Alliance has a base and enjoys the coconuts there (please, do not ask!)
During the battle, Voltron takes out Zutka's command ship and I would assume in DXV this was where he met his maker. In VV, however, Jeff makes a point to say Zutka 'escaped'.
Quote:
"Our mighty new robeast has an awesome strength, unequalled by other in the Drule Empire." - Zutka. Hmm, haven't we heard that before? Yeah, that's one of Haggar's favorite claims. Maybe they had lunch recently.
Robot: Sir, they have reinforcements.
Zutka: Then fight the reinforcements, idiots!
- Color Me Invisible*
(Depsite talk of a found map, I do think the order of the eps is slightly different and like to put It Could Be A Long War as ep 52 instead of 46, per the Aussie DVDs. Feel free to consult the ep guide to learn why I think this way).

Drules Appearing:
Fleet Commander: Captain Garrow (a yellow haired one! and one of few males with eyebrows)
Viceroy Throk, Emperor Zeppo, Dorma, Commandant Bakki
Notes:
Throk laments that Drule was once green and beautiful, but now it is falling apart thanks to chemicals they dumped in their rivers and smoke they spewed into the sky - hmmm.
He goes on to note they need a new planet so they can continue their goal of total supremacy but the Alliance is in their way. Well, Throk has a plot to handle that! He brags that they left them a phony map of planet Alteus, so that when they go there to explore they'll get trapped in a chamber of ice.
Dorma confronts Throk as he leaves the Council meeting, hoping to convince him he's wrong about his attack on the Alliance and for having Hazar put in prison. Throk, of course, will hear none of it.
Throk then orders Captain Garrow not to engage in a fight with the Alliance, but rather, to hold them on Alteus until the Drules can get a new planet and re-establish themselves.
Meanwhile, as Dorma plots to free Hazar from prison, she's kidnapped by a pair of Drule citizens.
The Sea and Land teams are sent out ahead to scout Alteus, and Garrow is waiting with an invisible attack force among other things. However, thinking Throk wants all the glory for himself, Garrow defies orders and attacks the teams anyway, after trapping them in the chamber. The Explorer gets to contend with the invisible attack fleet.
On Drule, the rebel force intercepts the news that Garrow has been defeated and that the Council is in an uproar. Dorma comes to, and learns she was taken by the URF - Drule's Underground Rebel Force. Bakki is their leader and explains they are simply commoners and tradesmen no longer willing to sit idly by while their leaders go on blindly to everyone's destruction.
He asks Dorma to join their cause, promising that together they can free Hazar. Dorma removes her pendant, signifying her choice to join the rebels.
Quote:
"Dorma, you're just a girl. You don't understand these things." - Throk, to Dorma.
"This Empire was not built on whining about peace. It was built on power." -Throk
"I knew that I was good, but I didn't know I was this good." - Garrow
"In order to have peace we must fight, but the warmakers give us no other choice." - Bakki
- Time Is Running Out

Drules Appearing:
Fleet Commander: Captain Laro
Zeppo, Chancellor Mozak, Viceroy Throk, Durax, Dorma, Bakki
Notes:
The Drule Council is indeed in an uproar. Mozak, Hazar's father, is the sole voice of reason - even sticking up for the rebels which Throk wants wiped out. Throk also touts a new, grand scheme that will rid them of the Alliance once and for all.
The rebels have defeated one of Drule's best batallions, but at a high cost to them. Dorma realizes they must try to work more from the inside and vows to find an ally among the high council given she is familiar with all of them. Her father, Mozak, seems to be the best candidate.
Meanwhile, as the Voltron teams near Alpha one, they encounter magna mines launched by Captain Laro.
Back on Drule, Dorma meets with her father bringing along Bakki. Mozak knows Bakki is wanted as a traitor to the nation, and at first threatens to turn him in. Mozak takes a moment to consider it, thanks to Dorma's appeal.
Laro loses the base and the battle to Voltron, but is said to have escaped.
Quote:
"A typical bleeding heart question. Who cares about one planet? There are plenty of other planets we can move to." - Durax's repsonse to Chancellor Mozak's remarks on the sorry state of planet Drule.
Mozak: They've lost faith in our generals for one simple reason. They always lose.
Throk: You'll eat your words when you hear our new plan. An invincible plan to destroy Voltron with a new secret weapon.
Mozak: Another one?
"Viceroy Throk, the rebels have just defeated one of our best batallions." - a robot reporting to Throk, right after he declared before the Council that the rebels were a small bunch of weaklings. Zing.

Drules Appearing:
Commander Borgam
Fleet Commander: Captain Arkul
Emperor Zeppo, Throk, Durax
Notes:
The Explorer is headed to a planet where they plan to meet with the ex-leaders of Planet Drule. It looks like Dreska, to me. Hawkins thinks he can trust their desire to join the Alliance is sincere, given they may have learned their lesson when they were defeated on Drule.
Of course, the Teams are attacked, with the Captain in charge of the Drule attack fleet revealing to the audience that this is just a distraction while Zeppo and the rest of the ousted Council capture the new Planet Drule (see why this kinda has to be the last ep? The Alliance, if you keep this as ep 46 per the Aussie DVDs, has not even liberated old Drule yet much less set them up on the new planet! I know WEP gets failing grades for continuity, but come on...this is pretty bad left alone and not rearranged to make sense even by WEP's scattershot standards).
Meanwhile, Zeppo has succeeded and rules the Drules once more. And though they have defeated Hazar, Zeppo recognizes that he has 'the heart of the people' and suggests bringing him back into the Council in an insincere attempt to show the Drules he plans to rule with fairness.
Borgam gets the good news but it told he can return home only after he defeats Voltron. Borgam wisely ditches out early, anyway, abandoning the base.
Invading the base on foot, the VF learn too late of the Drule plot by finding a map charting their take-over of the new planet.
After dealing with a robeast, things settle down and the Voltron Force realizes they must go help the Drule people win their freedom again. It ends with a vow to do just that, which left things wide open for a continuation, had VV been more of a success. Ah well.
Quote:
"Zeppo has surely destroyed all resistance on the new planet by now. It's only a matter of time before the Emporer regains his throne." - Borgam
