On this page, I decided to post some of the cut scenes and such from the Dairugger XV videos I have (this, for those who don't know, is the original anime on which VV was based). I'll be referring to the eps and characters by their English dub names to make my life simple, seems how I don't know all the Japanese counterparts. None of the clips are fan-subbed unless specifically noted. Do note some information here may provide "spoiler" information for viewers of either series, so be warned. Anyone who would like to contribute to this page is encouraged to donate any information/clips they may have. Simply email me and I will of course, list full credits/links with your contribution!

 Opening Sequence |

I found the lyrics to this in Japanese online and ran them through a translator. This is basically what it is in English.
"Youth of Galaxy"
Let's travel the sea, the endless sea
Raging waves are also a lullaby
The journeying youth, when lonely
Holds on to a yearning that blazes
Dairugger, this is youth
Dairugger, this is
This is love
Young lives fight to the bitter end
And have exchanged promises with space.

 Closing Sequence 1 |
1:00
The usual closing sequence to the DXV series. |
 Closing Sequence 2 |
1:00
The song remains the same, but this closing sequence features a girl's hand molesting a daisy. Erm...yeah. |
 Base Carnage |

When the Drule's attack the outpost of Colonel Cross's in "Defend the New World", some Alliance dudes really bite the dust - here's 20 some seconds of gore cut by WEP. |
 Colonel Cross's Death |
0:58
Later on in "Defend the New World", Colonel Cross feels the burn of Drule missiles himself. Ouch. Gotta love the pretty ballad playing as he becomes a crispy critter, too. |
 Mongo's Death |
0:48
In "Hazar on the Carpet", Mongo doesn't go into self imposed exile. He loses big time to an Alliance fleet and goes up in a blaze. Also here is Hazar's reaction, complete with another cut tidbit - particularly the angle that shows nude art near him. |
 Zabar Dies |
1:57
Zabar doesn't get captured after failing to defeat a one-legged Voltron, as they claimed in the dubs. Nope, he darn near gets fileted by the blazing sword in DXV. |
 Nerok Dies |
1:43
Needless to say, Nerok does not "escape" when his ship goes down near the end of "Save the Space Station". |
 Alliance Guy Gets Smashed |
1:41
That brash guy from "Smashing the Meteor Barrier" who bravely offered to lead the way through the meteor/mine field didn't miraculously make it through in one piece. I do find it funny in the dub they make up for Jeff's crying by having him note that the "heat is really intense". Also, WEP took the rare measure of splicing a shot of our Alliance guy back in after he'd already died in the original version. Here, you see the scene how it played out in DXV. |
 Keezor Dies |
0:30
In the ep "A Man Made Sun", Keezor's plot backfires rather literally, spelling his fiery end as well. Is there a Drule in this series that didn't go up in flames? |
 Carver's Death |
2:06
At the end of "A Man Made Sun", Captain Carver sacrifices himself, his crew, and his ship to save the VV teams. This depicts his death and Jeff's heartbreaking reaction, the super-imposed salute in particular was cut by WEP. This would have been one of those times where a "he miraculously escaped!" voice over would have been used in VV, I'm sure. |
 Neffra Dies |
1:11
In "Planet of the Amazons", their leader, Neffra, isn't left to the capable hands of healers. Nah. She kicks the old bucket. |
 Coco-nuts |
2:11
What happened to those two stooges who were kookoo for coconuts? They got pwned, that's what. |
 Antor's Death |
1:52
In "That's the Old Ballgame", WEP cut out really, this tidy series of scenes for the most part. First, we get to see a Drule Captain get fried. Next, Hazar is talking with Dorma and some more nekkid painting/statue shots get cut. Then, the Voltron Force survey the field of the dead back at the base, and Jeff finds Lt. Antor dead, but still clutching that football. Dang. |
 Brack's Suicide |
1:44
After his failed coup attempt, WEP pretty much had to cut this entire scene where he and Hazar have words before Brack turns a pistol on himself, literally blowing his brains out. |
 Twila Escapes |
0:37
By request, this clip features Twila's (aka Emma) escape, featuring a small cut scene in which the lady we know better as "Debbie" gets sucker punched in the gut. Not sure why 80s era censors took that out, but they did! |
 Twila Dies |
0:59
From "This World's For the Birds", this cut is what really happened to Twila (aka Emma) during that fateful suicide run. Needless to say she didn't get to her escape pod in time as the U.S. version asserts.
 Throk's Death |
1:13
In "The Drules Surrender" Throk, Durak and several other high council members get into a robeast and try to high-tail it outta there. But Voltron won't let 'em go, and in this scene, they attack a *retreating* beast, and in effect, executing Throk and the others. No wonder WEP cut it, heh heh. |
 Zeppo Dies |
1:02
Also from "The Drules Surrender", this scene depicts what really happened when Hazar and Dorma - along with a bunch of rebels - confront Emperor Zeppo. One Drule tries to defend Zeppo at the last minute but Dorma blasts him. As the Drule dies, he fires his weapon erratically, and some shots hit Zeppo, mortally wounding him. In a touching scene afterward, Hazar steps up to the throne and gently closes the lids of Zeppo's vacant eyes. Then he turns to the rebels and gives what sounds like a victory shout. Interesting! |
 Hazar Stabbed |
1:58
From Dairugger XV and its Episode 52, this one isn't fan subbed and since I don't understand Japanese I can't tell you why this group of Drules murder Hazar or what Sandu (the Drule from Ep 11 "A Temporary Truce") had to do with it. At any rate, this clip shows Hazar's bloody murder by a trio of knife-weilding Drules.
The U.S. version makes up for this lengthy cut scene by having Jeff flashback to Sandu's situation as well as Lt. Antor (from Ep 39 "That's the Old Ball Game") at length in an effort to show how tough the Drule people are - quite a difference in plots, especially since Hazar lives in the U.S. version! |
 Hazar Dies with Drule |
3:09
This scene happens shortly after the previous clip above, and it depicts Dorma and the Voltron Force discovering Hazar's body as well as showing how his body is left on Drule to perish with it. The jewel Dorma leaves with him looks like the lucky charm Lisa had given Jeff in several episodes back... |
