Tied for Best Cliffhanger Fan Fic in 2006

Basic Premise: In one episode Hazar mentioned there was a spy on the Explorer, so I ran with that. The story involves this mystery spy's meddling and the using of a girl from a race of people whose planet was caught in the middle of an Alliance/Drule fight and ultimately destroyed (the girl and her people were inspired by a dream I had but don't worry...the dream was a sue-fest that got tamed and reworked in the waking realm so don't necessarily judge that harshly. Just saying...)
The Drules managed to make the Alliance look like the bad guys in that situation, and working with the spy, try to do what they can to rid themselves of the "intruders" to their galaxy. Of course, the Drules also have their problems with politics and a crumbling world, a la the series, and that's dealt with as well. So basically, the Drules are racing against the time bomb of the planet they live on and the Alliance is racing to uncover the spy's identity before he can destroy them.

Began: Sept 2004
Concluded: June 2006

Parts: 12/12 posted, with an epilogue.

Setting: VV series, starting about mid-way through, and paralleling the series story to its conclusion. Some events were changed with new challenges offered up, plus a few OCs were thrown into the mix.

Sequels? Yes, one is planned anyway. But I hope to make it so one doesn't have to necessarily read WD to understand it, just have it take place post-VV series and in the same continuum as WD.

Direct canon references: Several. Knowing the basics of the VV series story helps as far as being familiar with the Alliance's mission and the internal turmoil in the Drule Empire, along with the fact that their world is crumbling.
Other references include bringing in minor Drule character, Sandu, who appeared in Episode 11. His history as to that episode stands since he was not shown to have died (like he did in the anime version) - he's alive and well in this story with his history of befriending the Alliance intact.

Pairings: Jeff/Lisa, with a little Ginger love triangle stuff going on. The series as dubbed was a little ambiguous as to who was really sweet on who, so I had fun with it here. Romance is more of a sub-plot here than a main one, though.

Main Character Insights: Focus is primarily on Jeff, Cric and Hawkins - with various other team members and Alliance leaders getting some ink time. On the Drule side, Nerok, Twila and Throk are the main adversaries and instigators, with Hazar and Dorma balancing that by trying to either make genuine peace or rebel.
