Notes on Jar of Flies

Basic Premise: Cheezey issued an album challenge to the Voltron fandom. Basically, you pick an album to set a series of fics to - one ficlet for each song on the album - and the only thing tying the stories together besides the music should be a general theme.
Mine, for instance, was the Alice In Chains EP, Jar of Flies, with the theme of the VV Drules.

Began: October 2006

Parts: Seven one-shots in a series, dealing with VV Drules as a main focus. I'm using these stories to try to try some different approaches to writing, in some cases and also to explore areas canon didn't explain. See below for details on planned/finished parts. An asterisk after the title means that part of the series is finished and posted.
We're supposed to do one part a month, but I'm having trouble keeping up. Big surprise!

1. Rotten Apple: This one will be where I explore the early days, pre-series, of the relationship I implied between Throk and Dorma in Winning Days. This would be back when they were like minded and I'm sure, used one another to their own means. Dysfunction Junction, gotta love it. Het, lemon or lime.

2. Nutshell: I thought, given the title, it would be cute to make this a drabble. Which is a challenge to me given succinct-ness is not my forte. I figure it'll involve Hazar's musings upon being exiled, and I might also do this from the first person POV. Angst, gen.

3. I Stay Away: This one explores what became of Captain Twila after her fateful battle with the Alliance. In "This World's For the Birds" she lost the fight and was said to escape, but what became of her and Bardo afterwards? Also will feature Nerok, Hazar and Dorma in supporting roles. Drama, a little angst - hints of Twila/Bardo.

4. No Excuses: I want this one to deal with Sandu and Shannon, from the Temporary Truce episode, and maybe what happened after that ep concluded seems how Sandu didn't die at the end as he did in the DXV version. Focus will be mainly on Sandu, but Shannon will feature. Drama, gen.

5. Whale & Wasp: I figure this is a good opportunity to get that stupid crack!fic pairing of Hawkins/Dorma out of me once and for all. The title alone alludes to an odd pairing, so it fits depsite the lack of lyrics. This would be post-series as the setting, for they don't meet in canon until afterwards, I would think (she is shown on the Explorer in the last ep, but they don't share any screen time there). So basically, I'm going on not much of anything - not even a hint of subtext, so it'll be a challenge to do! Not sure if this will be full blown lemon or just a light lime. I do hate writing explicit sex scenes, so we'll see. Het, lemon or lime.

6. Don't Follow*: This one explores what happened to Mongo after he went into self-imposed exile using an experimental time machine, as was asserted in canon. Told in first person POV, from Mongo's perspective. Drama, angst - no pairings.

7. Swing On This: Seems most given to Hazar's return from exile, but we'll see. This is the most iffy one at the moment. The thought struck me to go AU and make the title a pun for the gallows. bwahaha!!! *ahem* Drama
